As once did Hercules, the Greek divine hero, I stand before the parting of the ways: Shall I take the left-hand or the right-hand route along the Lake of Brienz to Interlaken? In summer, the shore-path on the left-hand side offers welcome shade. Or shall I opt for the water and take the boat from Brienz to Interlaken? My feet would not be averse to an hour’s rest.
